Pernik is a sentient island habitat, in Atlantis, where the possessed landed in their audacious attempt to sequester an entire multiplicity. The Edenist serpent Laton, in an ironic turn of events, finds himself possessed by the ghost of Lewis Sinclair, a wastrell teen who died in 22nd century Madrid. Lewis and a band of possessed escape Lalonde on the Yaku and arrive on Pernik disguised as Edenist traders. Under this Trojan horse Lewis invades and possesses the entire island. Little does he realize that the far more powerful personality of Laton has followed him there.
