O’Neill Halo

The O’Neill Halo is a ring of asteroid settlements in Earth orbit. The first asteroid was capured in 2047, with new asteroids being added and colonized on a regular basis ever since.

The O’Neill Halo, which has a population of hundreds of millions, is home to some of the largest corporations in the Confederation, and is also the basis for Earth’s orbital towers, which are anchored to major asteroids. The Halo has its own police force, and the most powerful and extensive orbital defence network in the known galaxy.

The Halo economy is based on high technology manufacturing, especially within the astroengineering industry. The Halo is especially well known for starship manufacture, a specialisation which dates back to the days of the Great Dispersal.
