A fission blade is a powered knife, capable of cutting through more or less anything — only materials protected by a molecular binding force generator can resist a fission blade. The blade, which is already extremely sharp, vibrates quickly making cutting easier. The blade also heats up to high temperature, to melt through things. It glows brightly when in use.

Not described in detail in the books. The quote «lemon yellow fission blade» in the books infers a blade temperature of at least 1200 °C.
